does mentally healthy diet & nutrition exist!?

Updated: 15 minutes ago

Okay, so DIETING is something that's been very IN recently, especially with teens and young adults. Actually scratch that- in my experience, more with dads in their 40s going through a mid-life crisis. The most common reason why people go on diets is because they want to lose weight. Now, if you're doing it solely cause you wanna look good and feel good about yourself, amazing, go ahead! But unfortunately, a lot of us get tangled in the limited edition of influencers' seemingly perfect life on social media.

Your diet should be what works for you, not what works for your friend or some fashionista on your fyp. For example, fasting with the excuse of occasions is one of the best ways to lose weight for us young indians, cause are our moms going to let us skip meals for no reason? NO. Let me tell you what I feel usually happens when we try dieting. We keep it up for a few days, lose maybe 1kg, and then stress eat, ending up gaining an extra kg from where I already was. Even if we manage to find the willpower to not cheat, there's suddenly a wedding to attend, or a party to go to. After this kinda series of unfortunate events (it's a show, i know), we just end up being incredibly hard on ourselves and creating unnecessary, depressing mind-blocks in our heads. I don't blame you guys if you think I'm being demotivating, cause I'm definitely inexperienced and the peer pressure is REAL, y'all.

Here are some things you can do to achieve a healthier lifestyle without being disowned by your parents AND without dying of cravings!

  • Eat a variety of food - eating just fruits and vegetables is both physically and mentally bad for you!

  • Don't skip meals! Milk in the morning is NOT a meal, people!

  • Eat what you want, just be mindful of portion sizes. When you wanna finish the leftovers, remember that this isn't the last time you're gonna eat that dish!

  • When you're craving junk food, try to make it at home rather than eating out. It can save SO many calories while giving you satisfaction!

While these are all completely doable things, it's okay if you wanna forget all about it for a day and eat your fav food. You can always compensate later, and a few good meals aren't gonna kill you! Being a foodie myself, I've experimented with numerous ways to eat guilt-free and trust me, if you find your thing, it really works! Happy dieting, you guys <3
